Northlight
Northlight is the software I use to create my digital paintings.
01 Digital first
Northlight does not simulate physical media. It is a native digital painting program, designed from first principles to realize the full potential of digital media.
02 Perceptually accurate color
Northlight uses OKLCH, which is a scientifically accurate model of human color perception. Lightness reflects perceived brightness, regardless of hue, and colors blend in steps that look equal to the eye. Northlight keeps 64 bits of precision per pixel for greater fidelity.
03 Marks, not stamps
Most digital brushes make marks by repeatedly stamping the same image along the brush stroke. Other programs simulate bristles from a physical brush. Northlight uses a brush engine built on signal processing and fractal mathematics to translate the motion of my hand into expressive marks.
04 Lossless recording
Northlight keeps a record of every hand-painted brush stroke. These marks accumulate into my impression of the subject.
05 Continuous improvement
Northlight is constantly evolving. My painting process involves improving Northlight to make the final painting better reflect my creative intent.
